Swampgrave – The Sound 228

Some bands make you want to photograph them exactly as they are. Swampgrave made me want to push it further.

The June 2025 issue of The Sound 228 includes my feature on the Louisiana death metal band, Swampgrave. This was my first time photographing the band and writing about them for the magazine. I often listen to a band’s music while editing. This time, I was pulled into the music’s raw heaviness. The name itself feels damp, gritty, and even a little haunted, which led me into a different editing experience than my norm. I leaned into that – darker tones, deep greens, warm amber and textures that feel worn in.

It’s one more piece in this ongoing collection of work, and one that reminds me how much the sound can shape the way I see through the lens – and later the way I finish the story in post.
